ENRE 600 - Reliability Engineering (3 sem. hrs)

Organization, management, and communication concepts in Reliability Engineering are discussed. Modern systems involve hardware, humans and software. These three sub-systems possess different failure modes and mechanisms of failure. Additional failure modes exist due to the presence of interactions between the different sub-systems. An overview of the complex systems, their failure modes and failure mechanisms, will be given in this course. Methods of failure rate determination are presented. In addition, maintainability engineering concepts are covered. Concepts of designing for reliability and designing for maintainability are presented. Lifecycle costing and equipment sparing policies are described. Measures of reliability which allow improvement assessment are discussed.
