Understanding the fundamentals of failure processes is an important step in getting at root causes and an important element in the process of designing for reliability. Complex systems usually involve the integration of hardware, software and humans into a complete system. Bundling together reliable components does not make a reliable system until all elements and their interactions are fully considered.

The presentation of material in this course is accomplished primarily through the use of examples. Topics start with a problem and then tools and techniques are developed to meet the defined needs.

Calculus and Differential Equations.

One can register for these courses in an audit mode or for credit in either an undergraduate or graduate program. These courses can be used toward degrees at the University of Maryland and at other Universities.

Each course consists of 14 sessions of 2 1/2 hours in length plus a final exam. Homework and exams are required for those taking the courses for credit.
