Omid Tabatabai
Summary
He joined the Center for Technology Risk Studies (CTRS) in August 1997. He is currently working with the Center in the area of improving the safety of Soviet- and eastern Europe-designed Nuclear Power Plants (such as RBMK and VVER) against fire accidents. This project is a joint effort between the U.S. Department of Energy and the Government of Ukraine as part of the International Nuclear Safety Program (INSP).
For the past five years, he has also been working with various Program Offices of the U.S. Department of Energy Headquarters. Specifically, he provided direct support to the Office of Special Projects, Office of Environment Safety, and Health (EH), and the Office of Defense Programs (DP). His participation in several projects included; Department of Energy Human Radiation Experiments (HREX), DOE Voluntary Protection Program (DOE-VPP), and Decommissioning and Deactivation (D&D) of the Department's nuclear facilities. He worked with the U.S. Department of Navy in developing an algorithm to calculate correction factors for the Thermoluminescence Dosimeters (TLDs) response to ionizing radiation.
He is also the "Publications Chairman" for the 1999 International Topical Meeting on Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA '99). For more information please visit http://www.enre.umd.edu/psa99/text.htm
